SP&T further silences even more voices

Brent Boyer recently announced his latest effort to silence those he disapproves of.

Ostensibly, the motivation is to “create a vibrant, thoughtful and tolerant place for readers to share opinions, debate issues and otherwise engage in the news”.

Some, including myself, would suggest the real motivation is to further silence voices which do not share the political agenda of SP&T.

I think I can say with reasonable certainty that my voice at SP&T was silenced for purely political reasons. I cannot say for absolute certain why I was banned for life from ever again commenting at SP&T. You see, I never received any warning alleging any violation of the SP&T comments policy and I never received any explanation for why I was suddenly banned for life and every comment I had ever posted was summarily deleted. All I know is that I was banned for life shortly after I criticized an article published by SP&T.

On 3/12/2008 (in the throes of a heated Presidential election year), SP&T published an article which referred to “[t]he recession of the national economy”. I took SP&T to task on this and demanded a correction. At the time, the NBER had not yet declared the economy to be in recession -- that took place much later (on December 1, 2008). Furthermore, the most recent GDP data at that time indicated the national economy had expanded in each of the previous two quarters. Therefore, I submitted that SP&T was guilty of editorializing in what was purported to be objective news reporting. I further cited an editorial critical of such practices.

At that time, voicing an OPINION (on the editorial page) that the national economy was in recession would have been acceptable (albeit unsubstantiated). What was utterly indefensible was stating this as FACT in an article purporting to objectively report straight news.

Click here and see that my criticism CLEARLY irritated Mr. Boyer. Boyer threatened to (quite arbitrarily) delete any further comments on this subject. My assumption is that he went one better and deleted every comment I ever wrote and banned me for life. I have searched Mr. Boyer’s comment history and confirmed that this was the one and only time Boyer ever responded to any of my comments.

As always, NONE of what I posted was even remotely close to being in violation of the SP&T written policies for commenting on their site. What I posted did, however, expose the political agenda at SP&T. I’m about 99% certain my critique of that political agenda is what got me banned for life.

Then, as now, the only thing lacking at SP&T was anything even remotely resembling objective and unbiased enforcement of their own written policies for commenting. Then, as now, I believe the real objective was to silence those who did not share the SP&T political agenda. Phase I (requiring commenters to disclose their true identity to SP&T) CLEARLY had that effect. Our local Leftists openly admitted this and openly celebrated it. Phase II (requiring commenters to reveal their true identity to every emotionally unstable political extremist in the area) has (not surprisingly) already silenced even more of the political opposition. Once again, local Leftists are thrilled.

Sad times for Steamboat Springs.

The 'Progressive' Fantasy World of FreeRider

I have often said that so-called “Progressives” live in a fantasy world where facts, data, evidence and reason have no role.

1) FreeRider says:
“Bush ran up the deficit over 5 trillion on 2 illegal wars by telling us lies of WMD'S”

A) FreeRider clearly does not understand the difference between “deficit” and debt. But, few “Progressives” do.

B) Congress (not the President) has constitutional responsibility for deficit spending. But, we expect “Progressives” to be ignorant of such matters.

C) Under Bush, the debt rose from $5.7 trillion to $10.6 trillion. So, yes, under Bush the debt rose by just under $5 trillion. Note that the “Bush” deficit spending skyrocketed after the Dims took control of Congress in 2007.

D) Neither war was illegal.

Unlike Obama’s war in Libya, both the Iraq war and the Afghanistan war were authorized by Congress. The Iraq war was authorized by the United Nations.

E) Bush did not lie about WMDs. Furthermore, WMDs were far from the sole reason cited by the Congressional authorization to invade Iraq.

2) FreeRider says:
“Obama has run it [the national debt] up about 2 trillion”

Under Obama, the debt has (in 2.5 years) risen from $10.6 trillion to $14.3 trillion. If Obama maintained that rate of debt expansion for eight years, he would grow the debt by $12 trillion (more than TWICE the debt expansion under 8 years of Bush).

But, again, Congress is responsible for deficit spending, NOT the President! The President proposes, the CONGRESS disposes!

3) FreeRider then embarrassingly digresses into the usual silly race based political nonsense we expect from “Progressives”.

Ken’s myth:

When governments subsidize alternative energy “solutions”, they ONLY serve to subsidize FAILURE! So long as their failures remain subsidized, these alternative energy “solutions” will NEVER become economically viable in the real world. But, Ken has never lived in the real world.

Ken’s myth:
“energy companies have yet to develop a commercially successful process to extract the oil from rock”

Facts:
Oil Shale technology was proven on a commercial scale at least as far back as 1924.

The largest Oil Shale facility has been in commercial operation since 1980.

Ken’s ignorance:
“Many experts have expressed concern about the impacts of large-scale oil shale production to our water, air, agriculture and public health. We want those impacts to be fully addressed”

Fact:
It has already been addressed. The guidelines already exist for environmental protection in developing Oil Shale. These guidelines are the most stringent in the entire world.

The ONLY remaining obstacle is the most dangerous religious cult ever. And, Ken Brenner is a charter member of that cult.

An Academic Pinhead Displays Her Ignorance

Let’s very briefly review the shocking ignorance displayed in just that one quoted sentence:

1) Even the world’s foremost alarmist admits that there has been no statistically significant global warming in the last 15 years (and, peer reviewed science shows that the data which demonstrate that contain “an estimated warm bias of about 30%”).

2) Peer reviewed science demonstrates that there is nothing even remotely unusual about the latest (now stalled for 15 years) warming trend. In fact, the ONLY thing which makes the current interglacial warming period even remotely unusual is that we have yet to match -- much less exceed -- temperatures produced by ANY of the previous FOUR interglacial warming periods. Not only that, but the closest we came to matching the temperatures of ANY of the previous FOUR interglacial warming periods was about 8,000 years ago during what is known as the Hypsithermal. Furthermore, as the previous link documents, we are in the middle of an on-going, uninterrupted 10,000 year cooling trend which the latest warming has NOT reversed!

Sustainability = Stagnation

Our local Socialist pinheads are at it again -- promoting the “sustainability” fraud.

Fraud? Yep, 100% fraud -- at least under any market based system.

Proof? That’s simple -- name ONE natural resource which the world has EVER run out of. There are none. And, only a centrally planned economy could ever deliver one. Under a market based economy, the natural law of supply and demand ensures that the world NEVER runs out of ANY natural resource. Rather, as the resource becomes scarcer, the price goes higher. Demand then drops, the price drops and the cycle repeats. But, the general trend is for GRADUALLY increasing prices and GRADUALLY decreasing demand. This creates incentives to find alternatives. And, higher priced alternatives become NATURALLY competitive and GRADUALLY take hold as the preferred commodity. Or, ideally, lower priced alternatives are found through the fountainhead of innovation. If you want an example, study the hysteria surrounding predictions that the world would run out of whale oil -- never happened!

I need to update my Peak Oil post to eliminate my “world of hurt” phrase and replace it with the GRADUAL concept described above.

Back to the sustainability fraud…
The sustainability fraud promotes stagnation and the death of innovation. It presumes that we will forever remain dependent upon the resources we current use and never make use of other resources in more innovative and/or less expensive ways. Again, that only even begins to make sense in a centrally planned economy where all innovation has been crushed under the jack boot of a Socialist totalitarian regime -- exactly where we are heading.

So, once the Socialists more fully impose their utopian fantasy and more fully crush innovation, we will -- indeed -- be forced (at gunpoint) to embrace the sustainability fraud in order to survive. But, as noted in the opening paragraph, the irony is that this utopian nightmare is the ONLY circumstance under which we could ever actually run out of any natural resource.

The Socialists tell us that they are actually providing -- through government subsidies -- the spark which will ignite the innovation that delivers the next generation of energy sources. BALDERDASH! Direct government subsidies (of any sort) do NOTHING but subsidize failure and stagnation! Wind and solar power would be MUCH farther along in finding their natural niche in our power grid if government had NOT subsidized them! The subsidies eliminate ALL incentive to improve the product and find the natural niche!

Ethanol never had a natural niche and never will. It was 100% pure government fraud and corruption (and still is). And, the same eco-nuts behind the sustainability fraud are the very nuts who -- as documented in a previous post -- reacted in an utterly irrational way to Three Mile Island and ensured we would not develop any new nuclear power plants for DECADES.

As I noted in a previous post, the global warming hysteria fraud is very similar to the stagnated mindset of the pinheads who promote the sustainability fraud. And, as we can see in the editorial which prompted this post; the two frauds are very deeply intertwingled. The stagnation promoted by the climate change alarmists is the fantasy that current climate conditions are ideal and any change -- natural or otherwise -- is inherently catastrophic. The entire fraud is based upon the notion that we must -- at ANY COST and no matter how insane the cost to “benefit” ratio -- find a way (which does not exist and never will exist) to stagnate the climate and perpetuate the current conditions forever. That, my friends, is typical of a stagnated mindset which is scared to death of ANYTHING which represents change of any sort.

The ONE aspect of our current condition which is truly “unsustainable” is deficit spending to fund entitlement fantasies. But, reigning in these truly unsustainable deficits is -- naturally -- anathema to the Socialists who ignorantly promote their alternative sustainability fraud.

SPT Editor Admits I Was Correct

Quoting Brent Boyer, the “Editor” of our local Socialist rag
(emphasis mine):

“Beginning in August 2008, we simply required that online commenters provide us their real names, so that we could verify their identity before giving them permission to post to our site… At the time, I also believed that if a poster knew that we knew who they were, they might be more likely to engage in civil online dialogue.

As we approach the two-year anniversary of that change, I find myself asking, ‘Did we accomplish our goals?’

Increasingly, my answer is ‘No.’”

Boyer, whether he admits it or not, has just proven my original prediction to be correct.

On 7/24/2008 -- before SPT implemented their latest efforts to suppress free speech -- I predicted:

“Eliminating anonymity will do little or nothing to improve the discourse. Better moderation will. SP&T need only objectively and reasonably enforce their own written rules.”

As predicted, the ONLY thing Boyer and crew have “accomplished” is to further suppress free speech and to drive away some of their best commentators -- yes, including myself.

You see -- with VERY good reason -- I don’t trust anybody at our local Socialist rag any farther than I could throw their building. So, there was never any way in hell they were going to get my name.

Now, as Boyer contemplates his “next steps” in suppressing free speech, the only certainty is that the iron curtain will come down one step harder on The People’s Republic of Steamboat Springs.

Sad (and, entirely predictable).

North Platte, Nebraska observed 30.3 inches (77 cm) of snowfall, making October 2009 the snowiest month of all months on record for the city. The previous record was 27.8 inches (71 cm) recorded in March 1912.”

NOAA further reports that -- in the continental USA -- October, 2009 was the third coldest October since 1895.

And, despite all the alarmist propaganda, NOAA also documents a 17 year winter cooling trend in the continental USA as well as a particularly dramatic domestic winter cooling trend over the last 11 years.

To believe that any good is coming from this cultist anti-plastic fad requires us to assume that all of these purported do-gooders who are now reusing canvas bags were previously disposing of their plastic bags in hideously irresponsible ways.

This is exactly analogous to the false argument that guns (as opposed to criminal behavior) are the cause gun violence.

The fact is that recycling plastic bags is -- by FAR -- the most sensible and environmentally friendly option. For those willing to risk their health and the health of their family, reusing the plastic bags is a slightly more environmentally friendly option. In fact, as the plastic will not absorb the moisture required to pose a food poisoning risk, reusing the plastic bags is almost certainly a FAR healthier option than the reusable canvas bags.

But, attempting to educate members of the single most dangerous religious cult in the entire history of the human race is an exercise in futility. You might as well attempt to educate your kitchen table. Those who have already embraced this cult are already too far gone. They have been WAY too thoroughly indoctrinated in their religious beliefs.

The best we can hope for is to prevent the very young from becoming indoctrinated into the cult. And, home schooling is the ONLY way to do that.

SPT Loaded Question on Health Care

Quoting the current poll question from our local Leftist propaganda rag:

“Are you dissatisfied with the state of health care in America today?”

Of course I am dissatisfied. But, if I respond in the affirmative, the implication will be that I want government to “fix” it. Government, as usual, created this problem. And, yet another government “solution” -- no matter WHAT that “solution” is -- will ONLY make matters WORSE -- as always!

Wage and price controls from FDR first created this problem. That FDR “solution” (to an inflation problem) literally made it illegal for employers to offer competitive wages. So, as always, employers found a loophole. The loophole was “benefits” (like employer provided health insurance). From that moment on, the consumer of health care was divorced from the payer of health care. And, at that very moment, we lost all hope of EVER containing health care costs.

Those FDR created spiraling costs are my beef with the current system. Okay, predatory scumbag trial lawyers who have the Dims in their bulging pockets (and vice versa) also contribute to the current mess -- as have additional government regulations which serve only to limit competition in the insurance business.

But, despite all this government “assistance”, we have -- demonstrably, objectively and quantitatively -- the BEST health care system in the entire world (partly because the governments of other nations -- such as Canada -- have made an even BIGGER mess of their health care systems).

I have ZERO expectation that MORE government intervention of ANY sort will make things any better. More government intervention will -- as ALWAYS -- only make matters WORSE!

Origins of the Smaller Class Size Agenda

I wonder how many of our locals who blindly support the smaller class size agenda have any clue where that agenda was born. Don’t count on SP&T to reveal the facts!

The SOLE purpose of the smaller class size agenda was to expand the scope, scale and political influence of the vast numbers of public sector employees laboring under an overtly Socialist model for the delivery of publicly funded “education” - er, sorry, Marxist indoctrination.

The ONLY “accomplishment” to come from this Marxist inspired agenda was to practically DOUBLE the number of workers laboring under this enormously destructive Socialist model for the delivery of “education”!

What started as a smaller schools agenda evolved into a smaller classroom agenda (requiring even MORE state employees). As usual, it ain’t about the kids!

It is my personal opinion that Mr. Gee is the worst excuse for a “journalist” employed by our local rag (which, in itself, is one of the worst propaganda rags in Colorado). Of course, within Mr. Gee’s so-called “profession”, the spreading of climate change propaganda is an institutionally mandated dictate openly originating at the top of the “profession”.

Since I have previously debunked the exact same alarmist nonsense from Mr. Gee, I will primarily refer the readers to this series of reviews of Mr. Gee’s previous climate change propaganda.

In brief, I would remind Mr. Gee that even Alarmist-in-Chief, James Hansen has grudgingly admitted that “1934 is the warmest year in the contiguous states” in the entire 20th and 21st centuries. Hansen, of course, only admitted this after being backed into a corner by irrefutable evidence. I would also remind Mr. Gee that there is considerable evidence to suggest that the mountain pine beetle infestations of that period were far more severe throughout “the Rocky Mountain West” than the “unprecedented” conditions which our local propagandist would have us believe.

In the dangerously vacuous “minds” of those who are among the very most dangerously destructive religious cult members ever known to humanity, current temperatures are utterly “unprecedented” and represent a terrible threat to a “Planet in Peril”. NOTHING could be further from the truth! And, Americans, in rapidly increasing numbers, are coming to understand this irrefutable fact. When we examine the peer reviewed scientific evidence, it seems obvious that there were, just in the last 10,000 years, probably MANY temperature related mountain pine beetle infestations which were FAR more severe than the present (perfectly NORMAL, entirely cyclical) infestation.

I am quite certain that President Obama intends to exploit this unbridled climate change ignorance to bring about his Socialist revolution. Once Obama nationalizes our energy sector (and he will), it will be all over but the crying. I am confident that Hugo Chavez is Obama’s idol and we are about to suffer a fate similar to Venezuela (which, like us, elected their current tyrant).

Affordable Housing vs. Open Space

Mary Brown, without appearing to know she had done so, told our community precisely why we do not have and never will have “affordable housing”. Mary said:

“Since we started doing community surveys in the late 1980s, there have been two items that have been one and two universally: Preservation of open space and affordable housing.”

How many times do I have to say this? We can have open space or we can have affordable housing. We cannot have it both ways! The two values are absolutely, positively, MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE! PERIOD! Pick one and stop pretending to hypocritically give lip service to the other!

Every so-called “solution” offered to date has ONLY served to drive the price of housing even HIGHER. Any idiot could have predicted that outcome. Any additional government meddling in the housing market will also ONLY serve to drive the price of housing higher still.

At BEST, these idiotic “affordable housing” schemes (all across the nation) create the illusion of a tiny little Potemkin Village (to describe it as a REAL Potemkin Village would be to give it WAY too much credit). Those very, very, VERY few foolish enough to buy into these illusions of Potemkin Villages are harmed the most. Meanwhile, the overwhelming majority of the work force then gets to pay even higher prices for their housing (to own OR rent) so that that the “affordable housing” idiots can crow about how wonderful their utopian illusion of a tiny little Potemkin Village is.

GEEZ! WAKE UP AND SMELL THE FREAKING COFFEE!
